Summary

A few considerations about the Haliakmon, the main river of the southwestern part of Macedonia in the late Byzantine and early Ottoman period. The focus is on the upper and middle part of the river and on the interrelation between the river, the settlements and traffic along it. Georgios Tsotsos, being an expert in the historical geography of the southwestern part of Macedonia, is aware of the delay in the historical and archaeological research of the above mentioned period. The Ottoman tax registers can to enlarge our knowledge.
