Summary
Georgios P. Tsotsos,
The lands of origin of the students of the Tsotylion School in 1892-95. A geographical approach
In this paper, a research on the geographical distribution of the lands of origin of the students and pupils of the Tsotylion School in the years 1892-95 is presented. According to the registration book of the School for the three periods 1892-93, 1893-94, 1894-95, the lands of origin of pupils and students extend to various places of the Balkan and Asia Minor part of the Ottoman empire (from Albania to Cappadocia), as well as to places of the Greek State (Thessaly, Epirus, Peloponnesus etc.). Most of the students and pupils (140) came from the nearby lands of Western Macedonia and the rest (131) from many other places. It is remarkable that 21 persons came from Asia Minor. The Tsotylion boarding school seemed to be vary famous and widespread all over the southern part of Balkan peninsula and Asia Minor, as it attracted Greek young people from distant countries. The far-flung distribution of the origin lands determines the high level of the courses offered by the school, as well as the interest of the Greek people of the period (both from Ottoman and Greek lands) in receiving comprehensive education.
